DESCRIPTION
The three hours from the city of La Paz. Covering an area of 176km by 70Km, at its ends, and a height of 3810 meters, Lake Titicaca is the world’s highest navigable surface. Lake Titicaca is blue and framed by a landscape of snow-capped Andean peaks and fed by melting freshwater. Its islands, dotted with archaeological remains are testimony to the domination exercised Aymara civilizations. Copacabana is a bay of Lake Titicaca. Formerly a “mystical region”, a ceremonial center of the pre-Hispanic cultures, and today is a center of religious pilgrimage where devotees of the “Virgen Morena”, the Virgin of Copacabana arrive. The faithful flock to this place to receive the blessings of Virgin traditional libation and perform traditional ch’alla.
DAY BY DAY
day 1
Today, you will travel from La Paz to Copacabana on Lake Titicaca in private transport. On the north side, which will accompany the glaciers of the Cordillera Real (6,000 m), reaching Tiquina where crossing the strait between Lower Lake and Lake called Wiñaymarka most called Chucuito in a small motor boat. We continue our journey and on both sides of the road, you can see the terraces on the hillsides and witness the pre-Columbian cultures, for example, Chiripa culture, and practiced agriculture in the region. We’ll reach the town of Copacabana at noon. After a short walk through the sanctuary of Copacabana, the temple, the craft fair and farmer’s market, take a boat to make a fascinating tour of Lake Titicaca to get to the Isla del Sol, where we moored in the temple Pilkokaina. From here, a short trail leads up to today’s destination – the small hotel, idyllic at the highest point of Isla del Sol, with a spectacular panoramic view of the lake. day 2
From here, go down the Inca stairs, past the fountain of youth to reach Yumani spring. In a private boat from the southern part of the island, to the north, with its white sand beach Challapampa and a small museum. If you are in good physical condition, you can walk back. Along the way, you’ll meet Chincana temple. The trail goes up and down. Enjoy spectacular views of the Cordillera Real peaks covered with snow and glaciers over 6000 meters and the blue expanse of Lake Titicaca. Night on the Sun Island (B / L / -).
day 3
Morning free to enjoy the panorama that is offered from the Island of the Sun, and then, after lunch, we went down to the spring to return to Copacabana Yumani private boat and make the trip back to La Paz hours, reaching the end of late (B / L / -).
